Learning Element Formats

This section of Configuration allows you to set up the types of Learning Elements that can be selected when adding Learning Elements to the Catalog.

You can add new types or modify existing ones.

Learning Element Formats are categorized by their specific Element Source.

To access Learning Element Formats;

  • Ensure the proper Active Team is selected; should there be more than one Active Team.
  • Click on the LMS Admin tab.
  • Click on the Configuration tab.
  • From the Configuration page click on Learning Element Formats.

By default, the Accord LMS comes pre-configured with dozens of Learning Element Formats.

Learning Element formats can be added or modified to best suit your needs.

The Default list will display each time a new Learning Element is created.

SCORM: Learning Element Formats associated with SCORM Content Objects.

Assessment and Survey: Learning Elements Formats associated exclusively with Surveys and Assessment

Additional: Learning Element Types associated with the non-SCORM content, including (but not limited to) URLs, files, modules, Text/HMTL, etc.

Add New SCORM Format

  • Click Add New SCORM Format.

A detail page displays with options for creating a new Learning Element Type.

  • Format Name: Type a title for the Learning Element Format.
  • Icons: Select an icon which visually represents the Learning Element Format. There are four sizes available. Each icon will be used to represent this Learning Element in various sections.
  • Dimensions: Enter a Width and Height for the Launch Window used to present the Learning Element.
  • Advanced Settings: Click the down arrow to expand this section.
  • Launch Window: Select the type of window (Pop-up or Modal) that the Learning Element will be launched in.

A Pop-up window is a secondary browser window in which the Learning Element is launched on top of the original LMS window.

A Modal window is a secondary browser window in which the Learning Element is launched in front of the original LMS window. The focus is retained in the Modal window and it must be closed in order to access the original LMS window from which it was launched.

  • Force additional Popup for Mobile: Provides an additional pop-up window for all mobile devices. This will avoid IFrame usage and improve presentation.

Status Options: Select the report status for this Learning Element, from these three options:

  • Success over Completion (default).
  • Completion Only (only reports Completion, not Success).
  • Success Only (only reports Success, not Completion).
  • Duration Reporting: Select if SCO duration should be reported by SCO or by LMS time tracking. If you notice troubles in the completion or duration of any SCO content please try changing these options.
  • Scorable (required for Quizzes): Select if this LE Type will be scorable. Those scorable LE can contribute to the Folder and Course scores.
  • No Resume: Select this option to disable all Learning Elements (even those with this functionality built in) from Resuming.

The Accord LMS supports resume (also known as bookmarking), which allows a Learner to automatically return to where they left off when re-entering a Learning Element. By default, this feature is turned off because some SCO have problems with possible data loss.

Combine Legacy SCO settings:

  • Captivate Quiz (5.X): Select this option when working with Captivate Quizzes. This feature Forces Captivate Quizzes (5.x and earlier) to wait for a status response before sending another status update. Only use this setting for older Captivate Quizzes.
  • Articulate (`09): Select this option when working with old Articulate content. Forces IE=8 compatibility for older Articulate content ('09 and earlier).

If you use Captivate to create your Quiz SCOs, create a Learning Element Type specifically for all your Captivate Quizzes and make sure to set this option.
