Sample Charts

In this article we provide a sample Pie chart, Bar chart, Line chart, Multi-Bar chart and Multi-Line chart.

Before making a chart for the first time, please review Charts -  Introduction, Adding New Chart Modules and Configuration sections.

It is important to note that the settings we use for our examples work only because of the specific type of Report Definitions used.  For example, two separate Multi-Bar charts may require different settings, depending on the desired display and the particular data used to generate the report, which in turn generates the chart.

  • Run the Report Definition from the Report UI first, to make sure you have a good sample with meaningful data.
  • When mapping the Report Columns to the Chart Data Types, be sure to match text to text data types and numeric to numeric data types.
  • Text Report Columns can be used for both Data and Primary Grouping Chart Assignments.
  • Primary Groupings are used for the Legend items.

In this Article, we provide steps to generate the five types of charts.  For your own charts, expect a given amount of trial and error with the various Chart Configuration and Report Definition settings.

IMPORTANT - How Charts Are Generated

It is important to know that all charts are created in conjunction with the Reports Module and a report will need to be defined and updated, before a chart may be generated.

Whether generating a new Report Definition or editing an existing Report Definition for the purposes of creating a Chart, ensure to always Update.  This allows the Chart to display data generated from your most recent settings.

Please see the Reports section to learn how to generate reports.
