MIME Type Settings (self-hosted clients)
MIME types are file type definitions used by web servers. If some of your SCOs launch from the LMS but then “hang” and do not proceed or complete, you need to check your MIME type settings for .flv, .swf, .mp3 and .mp4 files. Here are the settings that should cover all of the different SCO sources:
Extension: .flv = MIME type: video/x-flv
Extension: .mp3 = MIME type: audio/mpeg
Extension: .mp4 = MIME type: video/mp4
Extension: .swf = MIME type: application/x-shockwave-flash
Open IIS Admin, right click on your web server, choose properties, click on MIME Types button. If the .flv MIME type is not already registered then click on New (in the example screenshot .flv is already in the list because I had added it earlier, just click on New to add it to your server), add the Extension: .flv and MIME: video/x-flv and click OK.
The screen shots show flv-application/octet-stream, which also works but video/x-flv is better.
- Then restart IIS:
